fatb0y 1337 Posted March 18, 2013 How has religion significantly impacted or affected me? Well, lets revisit your initial statement of "Ignore it if you don't like it.". That is even more ignorant than if I were to ignore the 'religion' problem in the first place. Allow me to elaborate and clarify: Your wanting me to ignore the fact that some people choose to believe in an irrational way of life/thinking is completely contradictory to my own. This is because I am a man who practices the use of logic and reasoning. I cannot sit idly by and watch people essentially dissmiss truth. In this respect, I am directly affected by anyone whom I come in contact with who is religious. In my life I have been fortunate enough to live in a country that doesn't oppress its people, discriminate, or force/practice any one particular religion. But had I been born in another country/time, the likelyhood that I'd be more affected is significantly greater. Also, if you cannot deduce any reasons from my previous post, I'm afriad you're wasting your own time, friendo. However, I will restate that religion is everywhere, and to not be somewhat affected or influenced by it, you must be living in an isolated environment of some sort.I don't see how being religious means "you dismiss truth".I am not religious in any sense, but it doesn't seem like such a bad thing just to believe in there being more. Besides, you don't know that there are no god/s, so I don't understand how you can dismiss the concept of god/s so easily, since you are all logical and stuff. I mean for all anyone knows, there could be are different god/s and we could all be fucked in the afterlife, or not. I mean we don't know, so the logical and reasonable thing to do is to live a good life and hope that you haven't offended any actual god/s, if there are any. Internet fighting with other people about their beliefs, that can't be proven one way or the other, is probably not the way to live a good life.Besides, living a life based solely on reason and logic would be fucking terrible. 1 Oreo reacted to this

There just aren't "god/s", plain and simple. God/s were invented as means to explain how the universe functioned, thousands of years ago. To keep on believing that there are omnipotent beings controlling our universe is insane; you'd have to be a fool. And in my saying "dismiss truth", yes, in fact you would be, because you're ignoring all of the current science that truly explains how the universe functions or aspects of.And I agree, you can't have a world of pure logic. Take quantam mechanics for example. 1 1 ElectronicDrug and Tobi reacted to this

Nitestalker 792 Posted March 18, 2013 If people need something to believe in for them to get through the day, how about trying to believe in themselves? Then maybe something would get done, because we all know how much stuff "God" does for people. I think it's much better to believe in something real, something physical rather than some imaginary dude whose going to punish your wrong-doings.I just Lol, because no religion today can have any amount of truth or fact backing them up, yet countless people think theirs is right, or that others are wrong and "crazy"Imo, religion in general has long outlived it's usefulness. Nowadays, we have the internet to tell us lies and make us believe stupid shit, Its like religion but with more porn. 1 Eddy reacted to this

There was once a time when Christianity wasn't even thought of, yet millions of Christians would say their book is the right book. My gripe is that all of them are wrong, plain and simple.Yeah, religion came before science though?Religion came before modern science, yeah...but no, humans have been testing theories and drawing conclusions since day 1. You claim that there are no god/s, and I have no direct evidence to say otherwise. However, I have overwhelming secondary evidence accounts of there being a god or multiple gods. That is more evidence then you can offer on your theory that "no gods exist, at all". I mean, unless you do have some evidence that no one knows about. Anyways, that is besides the point. I don't really argue about how right or wrong any particular religion is. What I am saying is, could there possibly be a god. Yes, it could happen, are any of the religions on Earth representative of this god? I don't know, I don't know what god is. For you to unequivocally deny even the possible existence of God, on no solid basis of evidence... Is that not faith? 1 Mitch reacted to this
